5 Morning Rituals for Caregivers | In this, Part 2 of the three-part series “How Rituals Can Save Your Sanity and Make You a Better Caregiver”, we explore how you can get yourself into the right mindset for your day. The great thing is, these rituals work even if you’re not naturally a morning person. In fact, they might be even more important in that case!
1. When Your Alarm Rings, Get Up!
Snooze buttons rob you of a fresh start in the morning. You may think you’re treating yourself with a few extra minutes of shut eye. But you’re actually bringing your mood down mentally. Worse, you might be making yourself even more tired when you do get up. Skip the snooze, and focus instead on getting an enthusiastic start to your day.
2. Make Your Bed
Making your bed can be the first accomplishment you succeed at every day. That one small success can lead you to finishing another task, then another, and then another. It’s a way to get the ball rolling!
3. Choose Your Mood
Humans have the ability to choose their mood – it’s a superpower we have. If we’re in a bad mood, we can choose to lash out or we can choose to face the world with a smile. Here’s a hint: choose smile every time! Pick out clothes that reflect the mood you want to be in. Happy, bright colours and fun styles can really influence your outlook on the day.
4. Experience Gratitude
Focusing on the positives in your life instead of the negatives you’re stressing over is a great way to relieve that very same stress! Choose three to five gratitude to reflect upon, and write them down. Also explore how you feel about that gratitude and why. Be as specific as possible.
5. Move Your Body
This helps in several ways. For one, it helps you get the blood pumping and energizes your body. In the long-term, it promotes health and reduces stress.
