Welcome dear readers to the icy wonderland of Senior Living in Canada. Indeed, the rumours hold true; our winters are long and hard, our public transit is not for the faint of heart, and the road ahead might be a tad bumpy if you suffer from any illness or injury. But fear not, fellow Canucks, because we’re about to sarcastically drive over these bumps and figure a way through this mess.
Let’s talk about old man winter. Ah yes, the season where sidewalks transform into skating rinks and snowbanks into lumbering mountains. For those of us without a car, navigating the treacherous terrain can feel like participating in a neverending game of slip ‘n slide. But hey, who needs a gym membership when you’re burning calories just trying to make it to the corner store for maple syrup?
Then there’s public transportation – Canada’s solution to the challenge of carlessness. Sure, buses and trains can get you from point A to point B. But this depends on whether you’re able to decode the ambiguous schedules and brave the unpredictable delays. And let’s not forget about the joy of standing in the pouring rain praying that your bus will arrive before hypothermia does. What’s more, when the bus finally arrives you might find it too packed to even board, so you’ll need to wait some more. It’s a thrilling game of chance where the stakes are your health, sanity, dignity, and dry socks.
But what about those who are aged, ill, or injured? I mean, just boarding a bus requires the agility of an ice skater and the strength of a bulldozer. And finding a seat is often less likely than finding standing space. And the problem is, riding on top of the bus is generally frowned down upon, assuming you are physically capable of doing so. So,what about a taxi cab or ride share, you might inquire? These options likely won’t work if you need any assistance with anything other than driving. If you need help getting ready for your outing, need someone to accompany you to the appointment, or anything else, you’re out of luck.
So, what’s a one-stop solution for this issue? One that will is comfortable, timely, and provides the help you are needing? Accompanied Transportation is the way. Imagine having a qualified Caregiver attend to your home, help you get ready, walk you to the car/taxi, ride along with you, keep you company, and then return you home after your appointment or procedure is completed. It is truly as simple as it sounds. Careful, though, because few companies offer this type of service – and fewer still without costing you a small fortune. So, it’s important that you consider your need and determine if this is the service you are looking for.
So, to all our seniors out there braving carless winter living in Canada, I raise my toque to you. May your sidewalks be shoveled, your bus rides uneventful, and your spirits be as high as the temperatures are low.
