The Meals on Wheels program provides quality and affordable meals to seniors living alone, adults with disabilities who are unable to shop for groceries or cook for themselves, or those being discharged from an area hospital with limited/no help available during their recovery. Our Meals on Wheels programs are more than a meal.  It also provides a social visit by one of our caring volunteers, a safety check for many who are isolated, ensuring that our clients are doing well on their own. ElderDog Canada Inc. is a national, registered Charitable Organization dedicated to ageing people, ageing dogs, and the important connection they enjoy. Their purposes are to:

• Assist and support older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions;
• Promote the welfare of older dogs whose lives have been disrupted due to illness, relocation or death of a human companion;
• Educate about the human-animal bond in general and the significant role of companion animals in the health and well-being of seniors;
• Support and conduct research into the human-animal bond with a focus on seniors and canine companionship.

There are four long-term care homes in the City of Peterborough. Long-term care homes are government-funded housing facilities that provide more intensive forms of health and personal support. The Central East Community Care Access Centre (Central East CCAC) is responsible for coordinating the placement of patients into long-term care homes in the Peterborough region.

The Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network (GAIN) Clinic is part of a network of coordinated healthcare services that provide clinical care and education to ensure the best care for frail older adults and their families. The GAIN clinic is staffed by an interprofessional team of healthcare professionals that works collaboratively with patients and families and their primary care providers to strengthen supports and capacity for older adults whose health concerns threaten their ability to live independently at home (including retirement residences).
