What is Covid-19?

Covid-19 has arrived in Peterborough. Over the past few weeks, we have watched and waited as the Covid-19 virus has made its way across the country.  The Comfort Keepers team has been following the news and health advisories very carefully. As always, the health, safety and happiness of our clients, staff and community is our top priority. 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) “Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain [of coronavirus] that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans.” The virus appears as a respiratory condition. While Covid-19 can affect pretty much anyone, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions are especially vulnerable.

Symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, cough, sneezing, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. 

If you or someone in your immediate circle develops these symptoms, health agencies in Ontario are advising you to:

• Contact your primary care provider (for example, family doctor). 
• Contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 and speak with a registered nurse. 

What does the arrival of Covid-19 in Peterborough mean for our Comfort Keepers?

Many of our clients rely on the support of the Comfort Keepers staff. The care, assistance, and companionship we offer are critical to maintaining their quality of life and overall wellness. At this time, we are able to continue to offer that support. However, extra steps are being taken to make sure our Comfort Keepers, our clients, and our community are not being compromised. 

Our staff have all stepped up. We appreciate their dedication to their work and to keeping our clients and community healthy and safe. All staff are following all hygiene best practices. Additionally, we are screening ourselves and our clients before working together. 

Slowing the spread of the Covid-19 virus is possible. It is our aim to be part of the solution. We feel we can protect our community while providing whatever support we can to our clients during this difficult time.
