Senior Safety | October 23, 2017
Risk of Falls | Many seniors desire to live independently and not be an inconvenience to their families. Therefore, they try to live and function on their own, without the help of others. While this is applaudable, it is sometimes dangerous.
#DYK – One out of three seniors fall each year, but less than half report the incident to their physician.
Seniors take a stumble, trip over an object, or fall uncontrollably and can be injured immediately, or the pain could develop later. A fall shouldn’t go unattended, especially in aging adults.
Because many seniors believe that a simple tumble or fall isn’t a big deal if they aren’t immediately hurting or bleeding, they may not mention that they have fallen. Family members can’t always be around and measures designed to provide peace of mind, and to decrease the possibility of falls.
Less falls result in fewer injuries for your loved ones. Talk with seniors and remind them how important it is for them to let family members know if any fall hazards are in the home. It is equally important for them to inform the family if they have had a fall.
