Our caring, professional, and experienced live-in care specialists are here to help. At Comfort Keepers®, we provide expert short-term live-in care and all types of in-home care services for seniors to elevate the human spirit. Through our complimentary in-home assessment process, we learn about your loved one, so we can select one of our well-trained care aides whose qualifications and personality are compatible with your loved one’s needs, wants, and wishes. What is short-term live-in care?
Our live-in care helps your senior loved ones live independently in their homes for as long as they want while maintaining their safety and comfort. Helping your Mom or Dad with basic activities like dressing, showering, and exercising makes short-term live-in care so effective at improving daily quality of life. Your support worker can also take care of home chores, cook meals, remind your loved ones to take their medication, go for walks, go shopping, get to the doctor appointments on time and share meals, and more.
How does live-in care work?
Live-in care plans are created to accommodate the lifestyle and schedules of clients who maintain regular sleep habits and daily activities. You should expect to accommodate your caregiver with a separate, private area as their room to rest. You can also expect to develop a reliable, communicative relationship with your personal support worker; not only is your PSW selected to be a good match for your family’s preferences and your loved one’s habits and hobbies, but your PSW can also remain with your family for multiple concurrent shifts. Your live-in care plan will incorporate 2-3 personal support workers on a regular rotation.
What does a PSW do during a live-in care shift?
For your live-in care plan, shifts will generally be in 12-hour periods. This generally means about 4 hours of active care, taking care of activities around the home and for your aging loved one, and about 8 hours of on-site, on-call care during which the PSW may rest but will respond to any needs from your loved one. If the caregiver is needed more than twice during the 8 hours of downtime, your care plan may be adjusted so that all 12 hours are active care, and more PSWs may be needed to accommodate these changes.
What’s the difference between short-term care and long-term care?
Sometimes people require a live-in caregiver for a limited amount of time. Upon discharge from the hospital after a surgery or illness, continuing health means that your aging parent cannot care for themselves alone for up to several weeks. Aftercare instructions might include extensive exercises or medications that a live-in aide can help to make routine during recovery. Comfort Keepers can provide transitional care, as your aging loved one transitions back into their home and daily life, as part of your short-term live-in care plan.
Comfort Keepers can also provide more extensive care when needed, such as when your aging loved one has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia. Some of our clients require round-the-clock care, and we offer long-term live-in care plans as well. For many seniors, live-in home care for seniors is a cost-effective way to provide 24/7 care.
